Outdoor flooring

Terrace, pool surround and driveway flooring in porcelain, natural stone, decking and interlock.

Outdoor flooring in Dubai is chosen for two things people rarely ask about until afterwards: how hot it gets underfoot, and how it behaves wet. A surface that looks right in a showroom can be unusable barefoot in July or slippery at a pool edge, and both are properties of the material rather than the installation.

The build-up underneath decides the rest. Falls have to run water away from the building, movement joints have to be where the slab will actually move, and a bed laid without either will lift or crack whatever is on top of it, however good the tile.

Questions about this service

Which outdoor floor stays coolest?

Lighter colours and lower-density materials run cooler than dark stone, and shade matters more than the material itself. For a barefoot area such as a pool surround we will tell you what a surface is likely to feel like in summer, which is not something a sample board shows.

Is composite decking better than wood outdoors?

For most Dubai terraces, yes, because it does not need the annual oiling that timber needs here and it holds colour under UV. Timber still reads warmer and can be the right call in a shaded courtyard where it will be maintained.

Can you lay over existing tiles?

Sometimes, if the existing bed is sound and the extra height works at the doors and the drainage. Laying over a failing or badly drained base simply hides the problem until it breaks the new surface too, so we check it first and tell you honestly.
